What is Statement of Intent to Register?
Once accepted and deciding which college or university to go to, the next step is to accept your admission offer. Each school has their own steps and forms you must fill out in order to accept their offer, or submit your Statement of Intent to Register (SIR). You must submit your SIR so that the school knows to hold your spot by May 1 Some schools require a non-refundable deposit when you submit your SIR, HOWEVER, if you qualify for financial aid the deposit fee may be waived or you may be able to apply for a fee waiver. Take a look at the video below for a more in depth explanation. You can also check out the CSU or UC SIR page. |
What if I'm waitlisted at a school I want to go to?
If you are waitlisted by one of your top schools you should still submit an SIR to one of your backup schools. If you do not SIR you lose your spot at that school and the school will give the spot away to someone on the waitlist. If you get off of the waitlist from your top school after May 1, you can always reach out to the initial school you sent your SIR to and tell them you will not be attending. If you paid a deposit you will lose the deposit. |
