What is the Cal-Grant?
The Cal-Grant is free money for college provided by the State of California for eligible students who have filled out the FAFSA or CADAA. Cal-grants can be used at any University of California, California State University or California community college. There are 3 types of Cal-Grants: Cal-Grant A, Cal-Grant B, and Cal-Grant C. Your eligibility will be determined for you based off of your FAFSA or CADAA, GPA, the colleges listed on your FAFSA or CADAA, and whether you're a recent highschool graduate. |
Cal Grant AWill help pay for tuition and fees at four-year colleges. Award amounts vary by type of college but are up to $12,570. It has a GPA requirement of at least a 3.0 high school GPA or at least a 2.4 college GPA.
You must be pursuing an associate's or bachelor’s degree. |
Cal Grant BWill help pay for tuition and fees at a 2- or 4- year college. After the first year it will provide a living allowance of up to $1,648.
It pays most first-year students a living allowance only, which may be used to pay living expenses, books, supplies and transportation, as well as tuition and fees When renewed or awarded beyond your first year, you’ll receive the living allowance as well as a tuition and fee award. It has a GPA Requirement of at least a 2.0 GPA |
Cal Grant CWill help with the costs of a technical or career education. It provides up to $1,094 for books, tools and equipment—and up to $2,462 more for tuition and fees if you’ll be attending a school other than a California Community College (community colleges don’t charge tuition and your fees will be waived as a Cal Grant recipient). It is available for up to two years

How do I get my Cal-Grant?
In order to claim your Cal-Grant you must complete and submit your FAFSA or CADAA and create a WebGrants for Students account. After you create your account AND you know for sure what college you would like to attend, you can claim your Cal-Grant Award under the Cal-Grant section. To claim your award, you must confirm your school of attendance and confirm your high school graduation(more info HERE).
